We are fortunate to have a world class ballet so close to Oz, and an Artistic Director who is wonderfully bold and creative.

Michael Pink’s World Premier of Mirror Mirror has been years in the making, and it makes its debut as the season finale for the Milwaukee Ballet.

“What ‘Wicked’ did for ‘The Wizard of Oz’ is what ‘Mirror Mirror’ will do for Snow White,” says Pink. “This production explores the complex story before Show White bit the apple.”

This is not your children’s version of Snow White.  Dark, bold and incredibly sexy, Mirror Mirror casts a sensuous, magical spell on the audience, and tells the tale of beauty and envy in that mysterious way that only dance allows.

The role of Snow White is double cast, and danced by Nicole Teague on Saturday and Luz San Miguel on Friday and Sunday.  Susan Gartell is resplendent as Claudia, Snow White’s Evil Stepmother, and her character oozes seductiveness – which isn’t too difficult considering she spends most of the performance in a body suit that is, quite honestly, more alluring than being simply naked would allow.

Composer, Philip Feeney, is well known in the ballet world, and has worked previously with Michael Pink on the highly-acclaimed score for Dracula, as well as The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and the incredible blockbuster, Peter Pan, which premiered at Milwaukee Ballet in May of 2010.  Music Director, Andrews Sill, and the Milwaukee Ballet Orchestra are perfection.

The artistic team is rounded out by Lighting Designer, David Grill,  who was also on Peter Pan, and has done everything from Super Bowl Halftime shows to the Olympic Winter Games, and Costume and Scenic Designer, Todd Edward Ivins, who makes his impressive debut at Milwaukee Ballet with Mirror Mirror, after doing extensive work with The Rep this season, where he is an Associate Artist.

Mirror Mirror has three remaining performances:  Friday, May 16th and Saturday, May 17th at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, May 18th at 1:30 p.m.  Tickets are going fast!   Click here to purchase online, or call the Milwaukee Ballet Box Office at (414) 902-2103.

Mirror Mirror is presented by Donna and Donald Baumgarter and sponsored by the National Endowment for the Performing Arts, The Heil Family Foundation, The Ettinger Family Foundation, Susanna and Justin Mortara and Nita Soref.
